The Brodys

I will be trying to do more research on the Brody side of the family. Right now I am at a loss for information so if anyone has any, please feel free to connect with me through this blog.

Abraham Charpentier 1575 - ?

Abraham was my 11th great grandfather and he was born sometime in 1575 somewhere in France. I have no information on his family other than he married Marguerite (?) in 1600 somehwere in France. I have no idea where or when he died.

Cyprien Charpentier 1608 - ?

I have very little information on my 10th great grandfather. He was born in 1608 at Dieppe, France to Abraham Charpentier and Marguerite (?). I know he married Catherine Therelle, but I don't know when or where. He died at Caux, Allier, Auvergne, France; however I don't know when that would have been.

Jean Charpentier Sr. 1631 - 1678

Jean was born in 1631 at Dieppe, France to Cyprien Charpentier and Catherine Therelle. I have no listing for his siblings or even a specific date of his birth. He is included on a Passenger and Immigration list index for 1500 - 1900 that notes that recruits for Canada from the La Rochelle area of France during the seventeenth century were committed to work in New France in return for their fare to the North American continent. It seems he immigrated between 1652 and 1657 to Quebec city, PQ. He married Barbe Renaud on January 10, 1661 at Quebec City, PQ. He unfortunately passed away on April 18, 1678 at Quebec City.

Jean Charpentier 1669 - 1741

My 8th great - grandfather was born on November 2, 1669 at Quebec City, PQ to Jean Charpentier Sr and Barbe Renaud. He was the youngest of 6 children that included Marie Anne (1649),  Jeanne (1661), Madeleine (1662), Jacques (1664), Marie (1666), and Helene Angelique (1668). He married Marie Francoise Hunault on April 22, 1691 at Rivieres - des - Prairies, PQ. He died at Montreal at the age of 72 on December 18, 1741.

Francois Charpentier 1694 - 1765

Francois Charpentier was born on November 18, 1694 at Pointe Aux Trembles, PQ. He was the third child born to Jean Charpentier and Marie Francoise Hunault. His siblings included: Catherine (1692), Gabriel (1693), Marie Anne (1698), Marie Josephe (1698), Jean Baptiste (1700), Michel (1700), Marie Louise (1704), Marie Anne (1705), Toussaint (1707),Nicolas (1709), and Gabriel (1715). He married Marie Anne Thibault on June 10, 1720 at Montreal, PQ. He died on February 20, 1765 at Berthier en Hault, PQ at the age of 70.

Marie Angelique Charpentier 1733 - 1793

Marie Angelique Charpentier was married to Pierre Gaudin so that makes her my sixth great - grandmother. She was born at Lachenaie, QC on February 20, 1733 along with her twin sister Angelique to Francois Charpentier and Marie Anne Thibault. Her other siblings were Jean Marie (1725) and  Marguerite (1726). Unfortunately, I have found that Marie's twin sister died at the age of three in 1736.

Marie married Pierre Gaudin on August 28, 1764 at Berthierville, Québec, St. Genevieve Parish. They seemed to have stayed in that area to raise their children. She died at Contrecoeur, Quebec at the age of 60 on June 7, 1793.

Charles Gaudin 1668 - 1743

I don't have very much information on my 8th great grandfather. I know that he was born on November 15, 1668 at Montmorency QC, however I don't know who his parents were or if he had any siblings. I know he married Marie Madeline Perron, but I don't know where or when. He passed away on May 12, 1743 at Quebec City QC.

Jean Baptiste Gaudin 1710 - 1765

Jean Baptiste Gaudin was born in Nouvelle QC on February 12, 1710 to Charles Gaudin and Marie Madeline Perron. I have no listing for his siblings either. I have a marriage listing for him in 1732 which lasted until 1741. I have no name for his wife or why the marriage ended. He married Marie Elisabeth Leveille on February 4, 1738 at Montreal QC. However, Marie Elisabeth passed away 5 years later. With young children, he remarried in the same year, but I have no spouse listing for that either. He passed away on December 12, 1765 at Berthierville QC.

Pierre Gaudin 1741 - 1825

My sixth great grandfather was born in Portneuf, QC on June 29, 1741 to Jean Baptiste Gaudin and Marie Elisabeth Leveille. I have no listing for his siblings at this point. He married Marie Angelique Charpentier on August 23, 1764 at Berthierville, QC at St. Geneveive Parish. They stayed in that are and raised their family. He passed away March 25, 1825 at St. Mathias QC.

Genevieve Gaudin ?-?

Genevieve Gaudin was married to my 5th great grandfather, Gabriel Laroche. She was the youngest of four children born to Pierre Gaudin and Marie Angelique Charpentier. She was born in L'Acadie PQ, but I have a range of dates that she may have been born. They range from 1760 to 1780 so I will have to look more in to this. It does look like she was quite a bit younger than Gabriel. I have no idea when she died either.

Me!

Robert Laroche 1625 - 1732

Yes, you read those dates right.... my 8th great - grandfather lived to the ripe old age of 107. Again I don't have much information on him. I don't even know who his parents were. According to the records I do have he was born in Queaux, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes, France which is in the south west area of the country. He married Jeanne Souillou in 1645 at Chambon Ar Rochefort Saintonge, Charente, Poitou-Charentes, France. He passed away in 1732 in Queaux, Vienne, Poitou - Charentes.

Jean - Baptiste Laroche Sr. 1645 - 1717

I don't have much information on my 7th great - grandfather other than I know he was born in 1645 in an area of France called Chavy, Indre, Centre. This is located almost smack dab in the middle of the country. His parents were Robert Laroche and Jeanne Souillou, but I have no idea who his siblings were as I can't find a listing for any of them. He did immigrate to Montreal, PQ in 1653 so he was quite young. He married Antoinette Larose dit Lavoie on July 19, 1683 at Montreal and they went on to have their family there. He passed away at the age of 72 on March 25, 1717.

Jean - Baptiste LaRoche Jr. 1696 - 1753

My sixth great - grandfather was born on September 4, 1696 near Poitiers, France to Jean-Baptiste LaRoche Sr. and Antoinette Larose dit Lavoie. He was the seventh of eleven children, some of which did not survive past childhood. His siblings included Marie Marguerite (1686) [ Marie did not make it through her first year and died before the year ended], Jean (1687), Charles (1689) [ Charles also did not make it through infancy], Gabriel (1690), Anonyme (1692), Pierre Françoise (1695), Catherine (1698) [Catherine died before her 4th birthday], Josephe (1700), Marie Anne (1702), and Marie Madeleine (1704).

I think he may have immigrated to Quebec sometime between 1710 and 1713. He married Marie Suzanne Turpin Sandrille at the age of 27 on October 29, 1723 at Montreal. They then moved a short distance to LaPrairie, PQ and had their family there. He passed away at the age of 56 on April 8, 1753 at Longueuil, PQ.

Monday 22 April 2013

Gabriel Laroche 1740 - 1802

My fifth great - grandfather was born in Laprairie, Quebec on January 16, 1740 to Jean Baptiste Laroche and Marie Suzanne Turpin Sandrille. He was one of eleven children that included Marie Clémence (1723), Michel (1725), Jean (1727), Jean Baptiste (1730), Jacques (1732), Jerome (1736), Louise (1738), Nicholas Amable (1741), Marie Amable (1743), and Suzanne (1747). He married Genevieve Gaudin most likely in 1763 at L'Acadia, St Jean, Quebec and passed away there in 1802.

Sunday 21 April 2013

Marie Archange Laroche 1811 - 1895? or 1901?

Marie Archange Laroche was the mother of Thomas Cole who was my third great - grandfather. She was born in December 1811 at Quebec City, Quebec to Gabriel Laroche and Genevieve Gaudin. She was one of eleven children that included Marie Eleonore (1803), Gabriel (1805), Genevieve (1806), Marguerite (1806), Josephte (1807), Amable (1815), Narcisse (1818), Edouard (1820), Francois (1823), and Flavie (1824).

She married James Ezekiel Cole at the age of 14 on April 2, 1826 at Richmond, Carleton county, Upper Canada. In the 1852 census they were living in Horton, Renfrew County, Canada West, however by 1871 she is noted living back in Quebec. By this time she was a widow and I suspect she moved to be closer to her siblings. In the 1880 census she is living the Catskill Mountain area of New York State, but by 1881 she is back in Canada living in St Marys Ward, Montreal. I am having issues finding her exact date of death, but she died sometime between 1895 and 1901 and is buried at Bonaventure, Quebec.

Parlez-vous francais?

Approximately 2 hours east of the Bay of Biscay on the western coast of France is an area called Queaux, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes. I have managed to trace a line of the Cole family to this area. Once I have more information I will post about them. Interesting how it seems the lines of the Brodys and Jordans now include Ireland, England, France and Canada.

Going along...

As I go along, I will be sharing people of interest or those who I have quite a bit of information on. I will be tracking other lines of the family and I apologize now if it seems I am bouncing back and forth. I will do my best to provide family maps to show where people fit in.

George Maitland Faulds 1872 - 1916

What do you know about the Battle of the Somme? The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, took place during WWI between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on either side of the river Somme in France. The battle saw the British Expeditionary Force and the French Army mount a joint offensive against the German Army, which had occupied a large part of the north of France since its invasion of the country in August 1914. Canda played a large role in this battle as part of the British Expeditionary Force.

George Maitland Faulds was my 2nd great - grand uncle. He was born December 27, 1872 in Caradoc County, Upper Canada. His sister was Margaret Isabelle Faulds, who was my 2nd great - grandmother. He married Mary Lynn on September 21, 1898 at Middlesex, Ontario. By the 1911 census they were living with their children in Battleford, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Canadian military on July 24th, 1915.

According to his attestation papers he had previously served 3 years in the military with the 22nd Saskatchewan Light Horse. This link will give you more information on this regiment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_North_Saskatchewan_Regiment#North_West_Rebellion

Sometime after his enlistment he was sent overseas to serve at the front of WWI. According to newspaper clippings I have managed to determine that George was killed in action on or about September 17, 1915 at the Battle of the Somme. He left behind a widow and children.

ME!

John Fuller (or Fowler) 1350 - 1412

John, my 18th great - grandfather was born in 1350 at Shryvenham, Berkshire, England. I have no information as to who his parents would have been or any information on siblings. He married Margaret Loveday sometime prior to 1375. He passed away at the age of 62 in 1412 at Buckinghamshire, England. This would have been during the reign of King Henry IV.

Thomas Fuller 1375 - ?

Thomas Fuller was born in 1375 at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England to John Fuller (or Fowler) and Margaret Loveday. I have no siblings for him and not much information in general on Thomas. I know that he married Elizabeth Mobberly, but have no ideas where or when. I don't have any record of his death either although there is a claim that he lived to the age of 114. He is buried somewhere in Suffolk, England.

Thomas Fuller 1397 - 1489

Thomas Fuller was my 16th great - grandfather and he was born in 1397 somewhere in Suffolk, England to Thomas Fuller and Elizabeth Mobberly. I again have no information on any siblings at this time. He married Margery Fulmer sometime in 1429 at Yaxley, Suffolk, England. He passed away at the age of 92 in 1489 and was buried at St. Edmonds, Suffolk.

William Fuller 1433 - 1492

It seems the further back I go, the harder it is to find information on people. I know that William Fuller was born sometime in 1433 to Thomas Fuller and Margery Fulmer at Redenhall, but I don't know who any of his siblings are. He married a lady named Cecely in 1459, but I don't have her last name and I don't know where they go married. He did pass away at the age of 59 in April of 1492 at Redenhall.

John Fuller 1460 - 1511

Sorry that this picture is so blurry. From what I can gather this was the Fuller home located in Redenhall, Norfolk, England. It has been attributed specifically to John Fuller, my 14th great grandfather, who was born in 1460 to William Fuller and Cecelly (?). The only other siblings I have found for him are William (1460) and Robert (1462). He married Alice Redenhall in 1480 and they lived at Redenhall until his death at the age of 51 on May 17, 1511.

William Fuller 1483 - 1522

William was my 13th great - grandfather and he was also born at Redenhall, Norfolk, England in 1583 to John Fuller and Alice Redenhall. He may have been the oldest of four children that included Thomas (1485), Alice (1487) and Robert (1495). He married Alice Kinge on June 23, 1508 at Redenhall and passed away at the age of 39 in 1522.

John Fuller 1518 - 1559

John was born sometime in 1518 in Norfolk, England to William Fuller and Alice Kinge. The only other sibling I can find for him is Robert born in 1515. I want to see if I can find more information on this part of the family as there seems to be quite a bit of information missing. I know that John married Ann Collinge at Redenhall, Norfolk, England; most likely at St Mary cathedral in 1542. He passed away at Redenhall on May 3, 1559 at the young age of 41.

Robert Fuller 1548 - 1614

In October 1548, my 11th great - grandfather was born to John Fuller and Ann Collinge at Redenhall, Norfolk, England. He was the fifth of eight children all born at Redenhall that included Alice (1537), Ralph (1542), Mathew (1545), John (1546), Alex (1548), Susannah (1552), and Elizabeth (1559). It looks like everyone lived out their lives at Redenhall or somewhere nearby. Robert married Sarah Dunkhorn at Starston, Norfolk England on January 29, 1572 and they went on to have their family nearby. He passed away at the age of 66 on May 23, 1614 and was buried at Harleston, Norfolk.

Saturday 13 April 2013

Thomas Fuller 1573 - 1659

Above is a picture of St. Mary church located at Redenhall, Norfolk, England. It is significant as it is where my 10th great -grandfather and all of his siblings were baptized. Thomas was born on December 13, 1573 to Robert Fuller and Sarah Dunkhorn. He was the sixth of sixteen children that included Mary (1554), John (1564), Edmund (1565), Constance (1572), Elizabeth (1572), Edward (1575), Ann (1577), Samuel (1580), Robert (1581), Christopher (1583), Alan (1585), Sarah Fuller (1585), Rose (?), Valentine (1592), Susanna (1594), and Matthew (1603).

Thomas married Audrey Anna Glyman on January 22, 1599 at Redenhall. He passed away there at the age of 85 on May 30, 1659.

Now it looks like the rest of his siblings all lived and died in Redenhall as well except for Edward, Samuel, Susanna and Matthew. For some reason Edward, Samuel and Susanna move to Holland. As to when and why I am unsure, but it looks like they all went to Leydon, South Holland, Netherlands. They all met and married their spouses there and then made their way back to England. In September 1620 they boarded the Mayflower bound for Plymouth MA. From the looks of things Edward, his wife and his youngest son came looking for land, Samuel was a physician and may have been hired to come along to help with the welfare of the settlers. He was also a bachelor by this time. Susanna was married to William White and came with him and their children. However, Edward and his wife along with Susanna's husband William did not make it through the first winter at Plymouth and passed away in the winter of 1620/21. Susanna would go on to marry Edward Winslow, another passenger on the Mayflower who had lost his wife during the winter. Their union was the first wedding to take place at Plymouth. At some point, Matthew and his family came over and settler in Plymouth as well.

Below I have posted a link to the Wikipedia page for a short list of Mayflower passengers. You can find Edward and his family; and Samuel under the listing of Fuller and Susanna is under the listing of White. You can click on the mens' names and get further information.

Benjamin Fuller 1657 - 1711

My 8th great - grandfather was born in 1657 Salem, Essex, Massachusetts, American Colonies to Robert Fuller and Sarah Bowen. He was the youngest of 10 children that included Elizabeth (1636), Jonathan (1639), Sarah Elizabeth (1645), Benoni (1646), Samuel (1647), John (1649), Patience (1651), Abigail (1652), and Mary (1653). Benjamin's family went through a fair amount of sadness with Benoni not surviving infancy, however in 1676 things got worse. 1676 brought about the first Indian Wars in the American colonies. It was during this time that Sarah, Benjamin's mother, and two of his brother's, Samuel and John, were murdered by some of the natives in the area.

In 1678 Benjamin married Mary Barnet Darling at Salem and they had two sons, Benjamin II and Ezekiel. Mary died in 1695, when Ezekiel was about a year old. In 1697 he married Judith Smith at Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts, American Colonies. They went on to have 8 children in Rehoboth. He passed away there at the age of 54 on January 11, 1711.

Ezekiel Fuller 1693 - 1777

My 7th great - grandfather was born in Rehoboth, Bristol county, Masachusetts on February 11, 1694 to Benjamin Fuller and Mary Barnet Darling. He had one brother, Benjamin (1686), but had a number of half - siblings that included Mary (1691), Temperance (1696), Amos (1699), Joshua (1701), Hannah (1704), Abiel (1704), John (1706) and James (?). He married Hannah Thompson in 1726 at Lebanon, New London, Connecticut. He passed away at the age of 82 in 1776 at Hebron, Tolland county, Connecticut.

Jerusha Fuller 1737 - 1761

The wife of John Tuttle was Jerusha Fuller born on July 30, 1737 at Ellington, England. However, I am unsure as to which Ellington as there are a few located in various counties throughout the country. She was my sixth - great grandmother and was the seventh of eleven children born to Ezekiel Fuller and Elizabeth Thompson. Her siblings were Ezekiel (1721), Elizabeth (1722), Zebulon (1725), David (1728), Nathan (1731), Ebenezer (1735), Mary (1742), Daniel (1749), Huldah (1762), and Rhoda (1765). She married John Tuttle in 1755 at the age of 18. She died quiet young, at the age of 24 in 1761.

William Tuttle 1607 - 1673

My 10th great - grandfather was William Tuttle and he was born on December 26, 1607 at Ringstead, Northamptonshire, England. He was one of six children born to Simon Tuttle and Isabel Wells which also included Henry (1580), Dorothy (1592), Richard (1594), Simon (1613), and Abigail (1628). With the massive gaps between the birthdates, I am pretty sure there are some other children as well, but these are the ones that I ahve records for.

He married Elizabeth Matthews on in 1630 in England and they immigrated to Boston 5 years later. They raised there family in the New Haven area and he passed away there at the age of 65 on June 16, 1673.

John Tuttle 1631 - 1683

John Tuttle, the father of David Tuttle, was born on December 8, 1631 at Ringstead, Northamptonshire, England to William Tuttle and Elizabeth Matthews. He was the second of eight children that also included Jonathan (1630), Hannah (1633), Thomas (1634), Joseph (1640), Sarah (1642), Benjamin (1648), and Mercy (1650). He was baptized shortly after birth also at Ringstead. At the age of three his family immigrated to Boston and I am going to try to track down the ship they came on. He married Katherine Lane on November 8, 1653 at New Haven, Connecticut and passed away at the age of 51 on November 21, 1683 at Charleston, Suffolk county, Massachusetts.

David Tuttle 1668 - 1752

My 8th great - grandfather was the ninth of fourteen children born to John Tuttle and Catherine (Katherine) Lane on November 14, 1668 at New Haven, Connecticut. His siblings included Hannah (1665), John (1657), Samuel (1660), Sarah (1662), Daniel (1664), Mary (?), Rebecca (?), Elizabeth (1666), Benjamin (1671), James (1672), William (1673), Nathaniel (1674), and Susanna (?). He married Mary Reed on November 24, 1698 at Norwalk, Fairfield county, Connecticut. He passed away at the age of 83 on January 16, 1752 at New Haven, Connecticut.

Saturday 6 April 2013

Solomon Tuttle 1699 - 1748

Solomon was my 7th great - grandfather and he was born on August 26, 1699 at Norwalk, Fairfield county, Connecticut. It looks like he lived there his entire life as I have him passing away there in 1748. His parents were David Tuttle and Mary Reid and he was the oldest of 11 children that included David Jr (1700), Enos (1701), Mary (1704), Nathan (1707), Katherine (1710), Ann (1713), Lidia (1717), Daniel (1725), Ebenezer (1741), and Abigail (?). You might note that there is a gap in birthdates towards the end. I am not sure if there were other children born that didn't survive or if recording of birthdates got more lax. I am not sure when, but Solomon did marry Mary Canfield and they settled in Norwalk area.

John Tuttle 1730 - 1789

My sixth great - grandfather was born in 1730 in Ridgefield, Farefield county, Connecticut to Solomon Tuttle and Mary Canfield. He was one of six children that included Jabez (?), Mary (1720?), Stephen (1727?), Samuel (?) and Solomon (?). Due to the suspected gaps in birthdates and unknown birthdates there may have been other children born. He married Jerusha Fuller in 1755 in Connecticut. He died in 1789 at Cornwall, Stormont county, Upper Canada

Jehiel Tuttle 1755 - 1824

My fifth great - grandfather's name comes from the Old Testament and means 'God Lives' in Hebrew. He as the second of five children to John Tuttle and Jerusha Fuller at Johnstown, New York. His siblings included Mary (1750), Abner (1757), Abijah (1759), and Soloman (1759). He served in Revolutionary War and I am in the process of tracking his service records to see where he served and at what rank. By 1800 he was living in Oneida, New York and was married to Abigail Woodruff. By 1810 he was living in Windham, Greene, New York. He passed away at the age of 69 in 1824.

Jacob Tuttle 1798 - 1880

My fourth great - grandfather was born on March 18, 1798 in Madison county, New York to Jehiel Tuttle and Abigail Woodruff. I have no information on any siblings at this time. I don't know when he immigrated to Canada, but he married Lois Ransom Averill on January 23, 1823 at Aneath Wentworth Co, Upper Canada. It looks like they moved back and forth between the United States and Canada as in 1850 he applied for a homestead on the Minnesota/Wisconsin border for 80 acres. Then in the 1851 census of Canada West they are listed as living in Cardoc, Middlesex county, Canada West. In 1857 they are listed on the Minnesota, Territorial and State Censuses (1859-1905) as living in Wabash, Minnesota. On the 1861 census of Canada they are listed as living back in Cardoc. In the 1870 United States Federal Census they are listed as living in Knapp, Dunn county, Wisconsin. He passed away there at the age of 82 on December 16, 1880.

John Faulds 1751 - ?

John Faulds, my fifth great - grandfather is a mystery at this point. The only information I have is that he was born on February 6, 1751 in Paisley, Scotland and that he married Agnes Miller on June 18, 1773. I don't think they ever left Scotland as I have their son Andrew being born in Renfrew, Scotland, which according to today's maps is a distance of less than 4 miles. I will be adding more to this as I do more research.

Andrew Faulds 1778 - 1867

Andrew Faulds was my fourth great - grandfather and he was born in Renfrew, Scotland in 1778 to John Faulds and Agnes Miller. I don't know who his siblings were though and I don't know a specific birth day either. I know he married Ann, but I don't know her maiden name and I don't know the date of their marriage either. I have found a website to look for families that originated in Renfrew so I will be looking more in to this as well.

According to the Canadian census of 1861 Andrew and Ann were living in Malahide, Elgin county, Canada West (Ontario) and he passed away there on April 11, 1867.

Thomas Faulds 1824 - 1905

Thomas Faulds, my third great-grandfather, was born sometime in 1824 in Upper Canada. He was the fifth of eight children born to Andrew and Ann(a) Faulds. His siblings were Joanna (1810), Andrew (1814), William (1820), James (1821), Margaret (1826), John (1830), and Permila (1831). He married Sarah Elizabeth Tuttle on January 14, 1848 in Middlesex county, Upper Canada. They moved to Caradoc, Middlesex county, Upper Canada and remained there until his death on June 4, 1905.

Margaret Isabelle Faulds 1859 - 1929

The mother of Lois Bodine, my great grand mother, was Margaret Isabelle Faulds who was born to Thomas Faulds and Sarah Elizabeth Tuttle on March 25, 1859. She was the fifth of nine children that included Sarah Jane (1849), James Volney (1852), William Mellville (1855), Louisa Ann (1858), Thomas Albert (1862), Edward Arthur (1866), John Frederick (1868) and George Maitland (1872). For the Canadian censuses of 1861 thru to 1881 the family was living in Caradoc, Middlesex county, Canada West (Canada West became the Province of Ontario after Confederation in 1867). On October 24, 1894 she married Marshall Erastus Bodine at Elgin, Ontario and according to the Canadian census of 1901 they resided in London, Ontario. In the 1916 Canada census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta they are residing in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. She passed away at the age of 69 at Wayburn, Saskatchewan on February 1, 1929.
